The Engagement Economy: Designing for Interactive, Social-First Streaming

Session details:

With all the content and platform choices in the streaming landscape, viewers increasingly struggle with decision fatigue. Retention hinges on how quickly and intuitively a viewer can find something they want to watch but are limited by platforms surfacing only their own content, reducing the ability to truly discover easily. Platform-agnostic discovery tools, from universal search, watchlists to personalized hubs,  and robust, personalization-focused product development, can help reduce friction and guide audiences to their next title faster, no matter where it lives. Ultimately, the network of users can drive it all, shifting social discovery behaviors from other busy social channels, while fueling improved personalization. The product design lens becomes critical: how do you build features that feel intuitive, additive, and aligned with user motivation? This session explores the design and UX principles shaping the next wave of social streaming and how they can deepen engagement, extend session time, and unlock new monetization paths—ultimately reducing reliance on expensive originals.
