With 4K, HDR, and even 3D already in the rearview, the streaming industry faces a crossroads. Are we on the brink of a new experience evolution, or is the era of technical innovation over? With the Olympics fresh in everyone’s mind and being in the middle of the World Cup, the time is right to discuss what evolutions, or revolutions, exist in video delivery today. The teams that built the first streaming platforms are no longer the ones that are continually setting higher bars for user experience. This session will examine the state of platform technology: what’s working, what’s regressing, and what’s actually next. From AI’s role in video, to overlooked UX basics like metadata, to smart vs. “dumb” TVs, we’ll explore what could reignite excitement and what investments are truly worth making for next-gen engagement.
