Bio:
Maribel Lopez is the Head of PBS Digital Studios (PBSDS), where she serves as executive producer of PBS’s award‑winning original digital programming strategy, oversees operations and audience development. PBSDS offers original short‑form series exploring science, history, arts, and culture, and is a leading creator of educational online content for young adults, averaging over 20 million users and 50 million views monthly on YouTube. Maribel leads efforts to expand PBS’s reach and evolve its digital‑first strategy for the next generation of public media audiences.
Prior to joining PBS in 2021, Maribel held creative and editorial leadership roles at Twin Cities PBS, including Executive Producer of the award‑winning YouTube series Sound Field and Managing Director of both Racism Unveiled and Rewire.org, driving mission‑focused, audience‑centered digital content strategies. A lifelong public media professional, she has worked across documentary programs, digital journalism, and multiplatform storytelling, and is committed to developing the field’s emerging leaders. Maribel is also a PBS Mentor, past Aspen Ideas Festival Fellow, alum of Poynter’s Leadership Academy for Women in Media, and holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communications and Spanish from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.
